ANMCB

The American Naturopathic Medical Certification Board (ANMCB) invites you to become Board Certified. ANMCB is an independent Board and is not affiliated with a school or training program. ANMCB is a non-profit worldwide organization registered in Washington, DC, that administers Board Certification for natural health care professionals. The mission of the American Naturopathic Medical Certification Board has been, and always will be, the protection of the health and welfare of the public. Criteria was developed and administered for evaluation and validation of the knowledge and proficiency required in each category of the examination of the candidates. ANMCB Board Certification provides a qualitative indicator for gaining consumers’ confidence and the validation of other natural health professionals.

ANMCB's Board Certification is the first and most experienced national certifying organization for natural health care. ANMCB has proven, through the setting of standards over the years, to be the most beneficial tool for recognizing competencies in the Natural Health Care profession. ANMCB successfully set levels of achievement in the natural health care profession. The purpose of this exam is to help consumers evaluate whether a candidate has been appropriately trained and qualified to provide natural health services. Developed by Naturopaths, the exam serves as a review of your natural health program.

Those who have attained the ANMCB Board Certification have the personal satisfaction of knowing they have reached a recognized and accepted national level of competency. As members of a professional group, these certified natural health care practitioners have received the benefits accorded to professionals. These benefits include recognition by businesses, professional associates, peers, and the public. Overall, people seek to visit practitioners that have met the requirements of the American Naturopathic Medical Certification Board. When choosing to become Board Certified, choose an organization that is independent of your school for validation of your education and achievements.

Upon approval and/or passing the examination, a certificate bearing the ANMCB seal and the signatures of the President and Secretary are issued by ANMCB to you. You are encouraged to use the ANMCB Board Certified designation to announce your certification to promote and advertise. The ANMCB requires Board Certified professionals to renew annually by completing 20 natural health care continuing education units; you must submit documentation along with a renewal fee in order to keep your certification current. Continuing education is essential to remain current and effective in natural health care.

Please print an application and submit along with official transcripts and the required documents. An ANMCB Study Guide will be mailed to you as an overview of the exam. Upon your acceptance by the Board, a numbered certificate will be issued in your name with all the applicable rights, privileges, and responsibilities.

When considering a school, you should consider the length of time in operation, the success of its graduates, and approval from the State or an Accreditation Board. The ANMCB Board suggests you visit the American Naturopathic Medical Accreditation Board (ANMAB) www.anmab.org for schools that have been granted Accreditation. The Board (ANMCB) knows these Accredited program graduates will gain the knowledge needed to pass the certification examination. Be advised that some accreditation and certification Boards are created by the owners of schools for the purpose of promoting their programs. The ANMAB is not affiliated with any schools and outside membership of an organization is not required to become ANMCB Board Certified.

When applying for Board Certification you have an option to become a Professional Member of the American Naturopathic Medical Association (ANMA). ANMA supports and protects natural health practitioners' right to practice, produces a member published bi-annual Journal, provides practice setup advice, and presents an Annual Convention and Educational Seminar. By supporting ANMA and by being granted Board Certification, you are protecting your right to practice and raising the standards of our profession. WHAT IS BOARD CERTIFICATION?

ANMCB Board Certification is a trusted and valuable credential that is important and relevant to the natural health profession. Board Certification is a voluntary process that a graduate of a Natural Health Care program can choose to make. This certification adds a national level of competency which serves as recognition of a dedication to a higher standard of care recognized and requested by businesses, professional associates, peers, and clients. Passing your ANMCB Boards validates that you have met rigorous standards and have the judgment, skills, and attitudes essential for the delivery of excellent client care. ANMCB holds higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

By becoming Board Certified you show you have been reviewed by a Board and have met a level of educational standards by passing an exam and a voluntary commitment to lifelong learning through board certification. Continuing education requirements are essential to staying current and effective in the natural health care field for your clients.

AMERICAN NATUROPATHIC MEDICAL ASSOCIATION

As in any career, it is advised to join a supportive professional membership group. American Naturopathic Medical Association (ANMA) is a professional membership group that has been active in the field of Naturopathy for nearly 40 years. It is the most active, oldest, largest and most respected Naturopathic Association, earning the reputation for being up to date on state laws, actively aware of the legislative process, and supporting legislative laws that would not prevent our Accredited School Graduates from practicing Naturopathy.

The ANMA believes and the majority of practitioners believe, that Naturopathy is strictly noninvasive Natural Healthcare Therapy and does not involve prescriptions, surgery, medical procedures, or the claims to cure diseases. ANMA members range from students, Naturopaths, Nutritionists, Herbalists, Holistic Health Practitioners, Natural Health Care Practitioners, and MD/DC/DO/RN/DDS, with additional training in naturopathy.

EDUCATION CHOICES

When considering a school you should consider the length of time in operation, the success of their graduates, and approval from the State or an Accreditation Board. The ANMCB Board suggests you visit the American Naturopathic Medical Accreditation Board www.anmab.org for schools that have been granted Accreditation by ANMAB. The Board (ANMCB) knows these Accredited program graduates gain the knowledge needed to pass the certification examination. On the other hand, these are not the only schools where the Board accepts for applicants to sit for the exam. Some Accreditation and Certification Boards are created by the owners of schools for the purpose of promoting their programs. ANMAB is not affiliated with any schools.

ANMAB
LICENSING VS. CERTIFICATION

Professional competence of an individual can be assessed by two recognized mechanisms: licensing or certification.

Licensing by definition is a mandatory requirement and is usually administered and controlled by State Government entities. States that license Naturopaths are currently issued only to those that have graduated from a four-year residency program. We do not support these laws and have opposed them in several states. It is doubtful that state legislatures can define the Naturopathic profession well enough to regulate it effectively at this time. Therefore, licensing appears to be impractical as well as premature.

Certification, on the other hand, is a voluntary professional commitment that is the most practical alternative. The American Naturopathic Medical Certification Board believes that one national certification program is preferable to a multitude of possible state programs. Certification is not new or unique. Many professions and para-professions have developed and supported certification as an alternative to licensing or other forms of regulation.

Do you know your State's Naturopathic Legislative laws? Where you can practice, and what title you can legally use in your State? For a detailed Map of State's legislative Naturopathic laws please visit ANMA- anma.org.
